ALIAS | Fragile Lives, Shattered Dreams

August 2014 | Stockholm

Since the mid 90's the stencil art of German artist ALIAS has been decorating Cities all over the world. In a collaboration between The Scarlett Gallery and Galleri Bon the Berlin-icon was invited to set up a solo show in the premises of Galleri Bon.
The artist arrived in Stockholm with 20kg of stencils and in the ten days spent here, sourced all materials and constructed all the final artworks in the gallery space, a phenomenal amount of work and an awesome achievement when you see the artworks in the flesh! He also found time to leave behind a few permanent stencil pieces out at Subtopia too.

ALIAS's direct and emotionally charged child motives can be seen staring from walls in Cities such as Rome, Milan, New Delhi, Bristol, Amsterdam, Paris, Istanbul, Hamburg and above all Berlin. They are captivating, at times brutal, and so exquisite in their humanity that they seem to be an unquestionable part of the City. Simple but direct, the motives have been evolving during the 20 years that ALIAS has been active, from political messages against nuclear transport, simple tags and slogans, to the gun shot wounded children that seek our eyes today.
